The 77-year-old representative from South Carolina reportedly had a stroke.
U.S. Representative Joe Wilson of South Carolina was taken to the hospital after he collapsed at an event in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday. The 77-year-old legislator is a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
His office stated, “Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) was taken ill and is being evaluated at a local hospital in Washington, DC.”
His son, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, later stated, “Doctors have confirmed to us that he experienced stroke-like symptoms.” He added that his father is “stable and being monitored by medical professionals.”
Representative Wilson recently shared about his heavy travel schedule during the August recess, including official trips to the Philippines, Australia, and Europe. He also campaigned when he returned to his home state.
